2014 Inside Information

Inside Information Stakes at Gulfstream

CentriqueIt is time to preview the Grade 2 Inside Information Stakes at Gulfstream Park. What a great name for a stakes race! I mean back in my early days of playing the ponies, I dreamt and sought after some inside information. I had heard rumors that such information was available from certain people. I was told if I could only become friends with the jockeys that I would have the inside info that I needed to get rich. I bought race horses and got to know a lot of jockeys. I even got information from them. But most of the tidbits I collected were hogwash. If the jockeys and trainers have good inside information, they are not handing it out. Inside information is pretty much a myth. I have ranted enough now, so let’s look at this race. The race is for fillies and mares, four years old and upward going a distance of seven furlongs for a purse $200,000. The morning line favorite is Martin Wolfson’s Centrique. Centrique is a five year old mare with a good turn of speed and she recently ran third in a Grade 2 event at Laurel Park. Her running style is to be very close to the pace and try to get ’em down the stretch. She has been up and down in recent months, going as low as optional 25,000 claiming. She will be ridden by Javier Castellano.

Heart StealerSecond choice in the ML is My Pal Chrisy who is also trained by Wolfson. Her running style is a little different, as she likes to come from further off the pace. She has not been in a claiming race in the last two years. She will get the services of Julien Leparoux. The third choice in the morning line is Jena Antonucci’s five year old mare, Five Star Momma. Her running style is pretty much straight forward-get out of the gate first and hold that lead to the wire. She was second in a Grade 2 stakes here at Gulfstream on February 9. She has been down to the claiming ranks, but is working like a graded stakes contender. She will have Abdiel Jaen in the irons. So I guess you want some inside information as to the outcome of this race. Well I can’t give you any. All I can give is my humble opinion as to who will be the winner. And here it is. I believe the winner will be the third charge that Martin Wolfson has in the race, the four year old filly, Heart Stealer. I believe that Joel Rosario will have her just off the pace and will run them all down in the stretch. Second will be Thomas Albertani’s four year old Toasting and finishing third will be Five Star Momma. Happy Handicapping guys and gals!
