2014 Jenny Wiley Stakes

Jenny Wiley Stakes at Keeneland

Stephanie's KittenLet’s preview the Grade 1 Jenny Wiley Stakes for filles and mares four years old and upward going a distance of  11/16 miles over the turf course at Keeneland for a purse of  $300,000. The morning line favorite is Chad Brown’s Stephanie’s Kitten with John Velazquez in the irons. Stephanie’s Kitten has not run since July of last year, but has been working well in the mornings. Her running style is to come from off the pace, although in some races she has laid fairly close to the leader. She has had plenty of graded stakes experience and I can see why she is the favorite, though I won’t be betting her. Second choice in the ML is George Arnold II’s Centre Court with Julien Leparoux aboard. Her running style is to come from off the pace and run you down in the stretch. Discreet MarqHer last win was at Gulfstream in the Grade 2 Honey Fox where she got up to win it by a nose, even though she broke through the gate before the start. Third choice is Graham Motion’s Kitten’s Point with veteran Edgar Prado up. Here is another one that likes to run off the pace. Her last Graded stakes win came at Gulfstream back in March of last year. She finished second by a whisker to Centre Court in the Honey Fox last month. So who will win this thing? Turf runners were never my strong suit as a handicapper, but I will take a stab at it anyway. I am going for the upset with Discreet Marq going wire to wire and Centre Court second and Kitten’s Point third. Have a great day Guys and Gals!
