Forward Gal Stakes at Gulfstream

2014 Forward Gal Stakes

ResistivityIt is time now to preview the Forward Gal Stakes, a Grade 2 event for 3 year old fillies going a distance of 7 furlongs for a purse of $200,000. The morning line favorite is Todd Pletcher’s Onlyforyou with Javier Castellano in the irons. Pletcher has this lightly raced but undefeated filly training forwardly for this one. She has heretofore been entered in an optional claiming race, but the trainer has seen something he likes in this 3 year old. She has stayed just off the pace in her only two starts and pulled away to win easily. These races came on November 10th at Aqueduct and December 15th here at Gulfstream. Could this be a superstar in the making? Only time will tell. Next in the ML is Wayne Catalano’s Aurelia’s Belle with John Velazquez up. This filly broke her maiden at Keenland in October and then ran third in the Grade 3 Old Hat here earlier this month. She worked 5 furlongs in 59 and change about a week ago and seems readied to run here today. Third choice in the ML is Mark Casse’s Resistivity with Julien Leparoux at the helm. She just broke maiden in her third try and that was here at Gulfstream. Make no mistake, she will make the lead in this one and will try to hold off Pletcher’s charge. So who do I like in this short field of 6 fillies? I believe that Resistivity will prevail with Onlyforyou second and Aurelia’s Belle third. Happy Handicapping Gals and Guys!
