HHR’s 2 Year Old Stakes Watch- Anoakia

Anoakia Stakes at Santa Anita

Scandalous ActOn Sunday 10-13-2013 we have the Anoakia Stakes at Santa Anita. Before we cover that race, let’s do a quick recap of Saturday’s action. There were 2 Florida Stallion Stakes as part of the Festival of Sun at Calder. In the Florida Stallion My Dear Girl Stakes, Scandalous Act romped the field as expected by 5 ¾ lengths.  In the Florida Stallion In Realitty Stakes, Best Plan Yet did the same, also by 5 ¾ lengths. If you played our picks for the Festival of the Sun Pick 4 at Calder (which included these 2 plus winners Amen Kitten in the Tropical Park Derby and E B Ryder in the Frances A Genter Stakes) you got paid $130.90 on the $1 Pick 4. Needless to say it was a good day for us at Calder! Legend Fortynine shined in the Canadian Juvenile Stakes at Northlands, winning by 3 ½ lengths. At Thistledown, in the John W Galbreath Stakes, favorite Needmore Flattery demolished the competition by 18 ¾ lengths! Finally in the Thistledown Juvenile Stakes, Countess Bling out ran her mixed competition by 3 ½ lengths and paid $48.20 for the win! Now let’s look at the Anoakia.

Anoakia Stakes

Santa AnitaThe $70,000 Anoakia Stakes is the 3rd race on the card at Santa Anita on Sunday. This race will feature a field of 5 two year old fillies set to go 6 furlongs. The 6 to 5 morning line favorite in this short field is Spring Moon. Spring Moon broke maiden in her career opener at Santa Anita on July 21st by 4 lengths in a 5 ½ furlong straight maiden 75k. This Bob Baffert trained filly has some solid works and will be a major player here. 2 to 1 on the ML is Bajan. Bajan ran 6th in the Del Mar Debutante in her first attempt at a Grade 1, but her speed figures have been consistent and she will fare well within this field. For my value/longshot play I like E Equalsmcsquared. E Equalsmcsquared fell short in her last two outings running 5th in the Oak Tree Juvenile Fillies Turf Stakes and 4th in the Sorrento Stakes, but I look for her to return to form in this race. She’s 6 to 1 on the ML, but I’m not so sure that price will hold. At any rate, I feel she will upset this field on Sunday. Good luck and check back with us for more 2 year old stakes action throughout the week!
