HHR’s 2 Year Old Stakes Watch- Grey Stakes

Grey Stakes & Other 2 Year Stakes

We Miss ArtieYesterday we saw two Kentucky Derby Prep Season races with the Foxwoods Champagne at Belmont and the Dixiana Breeders’ Futurity at Keeneland. In the Champagne, Havana held off Honor Code by a neck, with Ride On Curlin  running 3rd and Casiguapo in 4th. But the race that really made me sick to my stomach was the Breeders’  Futurity at Keeneland! In my write-up for this race I chose We Miss Artie as my value play. Turns out, he won  it by 2 3/4 lengths- a wager I cashed in on. But I wish I had made a trifecta wager because my two longshot  plays, Smarty’s Echo and Arctic Slope followed We Miss Artie in and paid $2,450.20 for a $2 trifecta!!! Still kicking myself for not betting that, but I hope one of you readers did. At any rate we have the Grey Stakes at Woodbine to consider for today. The Grade 3 $150,000 Grey Stakes is also a points race for the 2014 Kentucky Derby. Due to technical difficulties on my end, I am going to add my picks for the other 2 year old stakes
races today at the tail end of this post. But first- the Grey.

Grey Stakes at Woodbine

Go GreeleyThere are only 5 two year olds in this race going 1 mile and 1/16. The 8/5 morning line favorite is Go Greeley.  Go Greeley has a near flawless record with 4 wins and 1 place in his 5 starts. He recently won the Simcoe at Woodbine and is looking to repeat that win today in the Grey. He is definitely the one to beat here.At 9/5 on the ML is Give No Quarter. Give No Quarter is coming out of a 22 length victory in a straight maiden 35k at Presque Isle Downs. I believe that he and Go Greeley will fight for the early lead here, with the more experienced Go Greeley winning that battle. But it might take enough out of Go Greeley for my value play, Ami’s Holiday to get there and win. Ami’s Holiday is 4 to 1 on the ML and recently won in his career opener in a straight maiden 67k at Woodbine. I think his running style will suit him well here and I’m looking for him to be there at the wire.
