HHR’s 2 Year Old Stakes Watch- JP Morgan Chase Jessamine

JP Morgan Chase Jessamine at Keeneland

Ami's HolidayToday, Wednesday 10-9-2013 we have the JP Morgan Chase Jessamine at Keeneland in our 2 year old stakes watch. Before we handicap that race, let’s take a quick look at what happened on Sunday. The big race was the Grey at Woodbine where Ami’s Holiday won out over a short field. Bobby’s Kitten dominated in the Pilgrim Stakes by 6 ¼ lengths and my value play Testa Rossi nosed out Sky Painter in the Miss Grillo at Belmont. At Santa Anita my longshot play, Aotearoa, beat Diamond Bachelor by ¾ of a length and paid $28.60 for the win in the Zuma Stakes. In the Surfer Girl Stakes, Clenor held off Nesso by ¾ of a length. Finally at Keeneland in the Bourbon Stakes, Poker Player upset the field over Bashart and paid $48.40 for the win! Now for today’s race at Keeneland.

JP Morgan Chase Jessamine

KeenelandThe $150,000 Grade 3 JP Morgan Chase Jessamine Stakes is the 8th race on the card at Keeneland and will host a field of 10 two year old fillies set to run 1 1/16 of a mile on the turf. The 3 to 1 morning line favorite is Zinzay. Zinzay is coming out of a win in her career opener at Saratoga, a straight maiden 85k at today’s distance and over turf. She won that race by a neck in stalking fashion and looks to do the same today. I have 2 value/longshot plays, both at 15 to 1 on the ML, that could give her trouble. The first is the other “z” horse, Zip On. Zip On won her last race at Kentucky Downs by a neck where she led most of the way in a straight maiden 90k. My biggest concern with Zip On is whether or not she can get the distance. The furthest she has been is 6 furlongs, so today’s distance may be a bit of a stretch for her. The other problem she faces is fighting for an early lead. There are several front runners entered here. My other choice is Shanon Nicole. Shanon Nicole is coming out of a win in a straight maiden 90k at Kentucky Downs where she won a one mile race over the turf by 2 ½ lengths. I believe this filly is coming into her own right now and has a legitimate chance at winning this race. The distance shouldn’t be an issue and with Rosie Napravnik on board, I look for her to get the win. Good luck and check back with us Friday for more 2 year old stakes action!
