HHR’s 2 Year Old Stakes Watch- July 29th

Delaware Slips In 2 Year Old Stakes for Monday

Delaware ParkIn this special edition of HHR’s 2 year old stakes watch, we are going to quickly cover 2 two year old stakes races that Delaware is running today that in all honesty, took me off-guard! I try to to stay current on all of the 2 year old action, but somehow Delaware slipped 2 in on me undetected. You can imagine my surprise when I realized that 2 $50,000 Strike Your Colors Stakes were scheduled at Delaware today! At any rate, let’s take a look and maybe I can get this out to you before post time!

Race 6- Strike Your Colors Stakes

Long On ValueThe $50,000 Strike Your Color Stakes is the 6th race on the card at Delaware. This is a 5 1/2 furlong race for 2 year olds and there is an eight horse field.  Oddly enough, the 5/2 morning line favorite here is Tashir. I say odd, because he is getting better morning line odds than Long On Value who won the Jamestown at Colonial earlier this month. Long On Value is at 3 to 1, but we’ll get to him in a moment. Tashir is coming out of a Maiden 38k win at Delaware where he won by 2 lengths over a field of 5 at Delaware. Not to take anything away from the horse because he is sporting the fastest time, but I can’t justify him as the favorite when we have a stakes winner on the card with a spotless record. As I said, Long On Value won the Jamestown on July 6th and has a perfect race record so far with 2 wins. His workouts look good and he is definitely the horse to beat in this one, in my opinion. My Corinthian ran 2nd in the Chenery at Colonial and 3rd in the Bashford Manor at Churchill. In the Chenery, My Corinthian lost by a neck to Silvertonguedtommy, and I think could be a real contender in this race. I believe that My Corinthian and Long On Value will be evenly matched here. For a real value play, I like Mr. Rover. Mr. Rover is coming out his maiden win at Delaware where he made a fantastic come from behind win. Coming out of a maiden claimer, Mr. Rover picked off 3 horses and gained 6 lengths heading to the finish. Look for this horse in the money today!

*******Update**********

My Corinthian has scratched from this race. We are about 3 races away so I will go ahead and post this portion of the article and hopefully get the second portion up before that race. check back soon for the update!

Race 8- Strike Your Colors Stakes

Delaware ParkRace 8 on today’s card at Delaware is another $50,000 Strike Your Colors Stakes set at 5 1/2 furlongs for 2 year olds. In this race, Theoryofrealitivity and Prestons Prince have scratched. No Fruit Degroote looks to be the stand-out here because of his 4th place finish in the $150, 000 Victoria at Woodbine. In that race he was only 5 3/4 lengths behind the leader. Today’s bunch doesn’t have nearly as much class and experience as No Fruit Degroote does. The next horse to consider is Rope who ran 4th in the Chenery. Rope broke his maiden at Churchill and even before that he ran a close 2nd place race at Pimlico behind Silvertonguedtommy. Rope’s times look good and he should be there at the end of this race. Salt Life is another one to consider having won his maiden race at Penn National by 4 1/4 lengths. Although lacking in experience, he does have trainer Murray Rojas backing him and should perform well here. My value play is Barracuda Wayne. He broke his maiden with a 3 length victory at Delaware on July 8th. I believe the public will overlook him and he should fetch us a huge payday if all goes well. Jockey J C Caraballo takes the mount here and should lend Barracuda Wayne an added advantage.
