HHR’s 2 Year Old Stakes Watch- Santa Anita Juvenile & Landaluce

Juvenile & Landaluce

Promise Me SilverThis Sunday we have 2 two year old stakes at Santa Anita to consider, but before we jump into that, let’s take a look at yesterday’s 2 year old results. In the Victoria Stakes at Woodbine, Conquest Tsunami blew into town and romped the short field by 7 ¾ lengths. Honkeytonk Man was second and R U Watching Bud ran 3rd. In the Debutante Stakes at Churchill, Promise Me Silver pulled out the upset I was looking for over Unbridled Reward by 2 lengths. The next closest filly in third was Rousanne, a full 13 ¼ lengths behind Promise Me Silver. Promise Me Silver paid $6.20 for the win. I look for more big efforts in the future from both Promise Me Silver and Unbridled Reward. On a side note, keep your eyes on Rachel’s Ready in her next start. Because she didn’t do as well as her connections had hoped in the Debutante, she will most likely be overlooked by the public and ready for a nice payout to our advantage. Now let’s take a look at Santa Anita.

Santa Anita’s Juvenile Stakes

Henry's HolidayThe $125,000 Santa Anita Juvenile Stakes is the 7th race on the card at Santa Anita on Sunday and will feature a field of 7 two year olds battling it out over 5 ½ furlongs. The 2/1 morning line favorite in this one is Holiday Camp. Trained by Bob Baffert and ridden by Martin Garcia, Holiday Camp won his first outing on June 7th in a straight maiden 56k at Santa Anita by 2 ½ lengths clear. His works look good and he should be the one to beat here. I have 2 value plays that I think should give Holiday Camp a real challenge. The first is Kristi’s Copilot at 4 to 1 on the ML. We’ve already seen what trainer Art Sherman is capable of when he has a nice colt to work with and I believe he may have a good one here with Kristi’s Copilot. I also like to see Aaron Gryder with a good mount and I look for a big race from him in this one. Wake Up Nick is my other value play at 4/1 on the morning line. Trainer Doug O’ Neill may have a hot one on his hands here with Wake Up Nick. He won his first outing by 9 ¼ lengths and I look for him to put on a show in this one. The surprise in this field who may upset the bunch is my longshot play, Henry’s Holiday at 6/1 on the ML. Henry’s Holiday is also trained by O’Neill and he has the ability to be a real threat here.

Santa Anita’s Landaluce Stakes

SeduireThe $125,000 Landaluce Stakes is the 8th race on the Santa Anita card for Sunday and will host a field of 9 two year old fillies traveling 5 ½ furlongs. The 8/5 morning line favorite is Seduire. Trained by Jerry Hollendorfer, Seduire will have Corey Nakatani in the irons. Close on her tail on the ML is Enchanting Lady at 9/5. Enchanting Lady ran second to Seduire in their first outing, missing the win by 1 ½ lengths. It will definitely be a fight to the finish with these two in the Landaluce. The value play here is going to be Robo Girl, though at 8/1 on the morning line. She won her first outing back in April by 4 ½ lengths and has the best speed rating in this field. She has trained like a beast, and I believe she will give the 2 favorites a real run for it here. For a longshot play, I like first time starter, Morning Coffee at 8/1 on the morning line. Her works look good and I would definitely consider her for any exotics. Good luck everybody!
