HHR’s 2 Year Old Stakes Watch-September 15th

2 Year Old Stakes at Barretts

LlanarmonFor today, Sunday, September 15th we have one 2 year old stakes race to consider at Barretts. I’ll admit that Barretts at Fairplex has just not been one of my favorite tracks to bet, but let’s see if we can find some value in this race anyway. Before we get to that, let’s recap Saturday’s slew of 2 year old stakes, starting with the Barretts Debutante Stakes. City by the Bay romped over the field with an 8 ¾ length victory. In the small wonder stakes at Delaware it came down to the wire when Hop the Six won by a head over Jonesin for Jerry and My T Swift. In the First State Dash at Delaware, Debt Ceiling grabbed a 5 length victory as expected. Calder’s Foolish Pleasure Stakes gave Best Plan Yet a one length victory over Union Cash and in the Brave Raj Stakes, Holiday Magic upset the field with a 4 ¼ length win. In the Kentucky Downs Juvenile Fillies Stakes at Kentucky Downs, Lien on Kitten proved herself on the turf over J J Julep by 1 ½ lengths.  In the Kentucky Downs Juvenile Stakes, Boji Moon dominated the field with a 5 ¼ length victory. In the Natalma Stakes at Woodbine, Llanarmon grabbed a ¾ of a length lead over Spanish Flower. And finally in the Summer Stakes at Woodbine, My Conquestadory won by 3 ¼ lengths over Go Bro.

Barretts Juvenile Stakes

Willie B AwesomeThe $100,000 Barretts Juvenile Stakes is the 10th race on the card at Barretts for Sunday and will host a field of 11 two year old colts and geldings set to battle it out over 6 ½ furlongs. The first thing I noticed is that Echo Zulu is entered in this race, but ran 2nd on Wednesday in the Afflerbaugh at Barretts, so I seriously doubt that he will run in this race. I could be wrong, but I doubt it. The 3 to 1 morning line favorite is I Earned It Baby. I Earned It Baby broke his maiden in a straight maiden 75k at Del mar on August 25th by ¾ of a length. He earned a nice speed figure for that race, but there are a few others here that should be able to beat him. One contender is Gangnam Guy at 7/2 on the morning line. Gangnam Guy earned a 3rd place spot in the Graduation Stakes at Del mar and followed that up with a very close 2nd place finish in the I’m Smokin Stakes. I like this horse here and I believe he will be tough to beat. My value play here is going to be Willie B Awesome at 8 to 1 on the ML. He did not fare well in the Graduation Stakes running 6th and although I’m not sure what happened to him there, I’m going to treat that race as a bounce for him. He hasn’t raced since then, but has put up some good works indicating that he is well prepared for this race. I look for him to stalk the pace and pull this one in. That’s all for now, but be sure and check back with us for more 2 year old action throughout the week!
