Midnight Aria to Cloud Sky in Queen’s Plate

Sky’s the Limit for Midnight Aria

2013 Queen's Plate at WoodbineThe $1 million Queen’s Plate is a race run at Woodbine in Canada for three year olds that were bred in Canada, going a distance of 11/4 mile. The purse is a hefty 1 million dollars and marks the first jewel in the run for the Canadian Triple Crown. This is THE race for Woodbine and Canada. Let’s look at some of the contenders for the 154th Queen’s Plate. Since it is the Queen’s Plate and since I am a gentleman, we will talk first about the two fillies that are entered here.

Ladies In Waiting for Queen’s Plate

NipissingThe first one is Nipissing. She will probably get the most play of the two girls in the race. She was second in the Grade 3 Selene at Woodbine and 6th in the Grade 1 Ashland at Keeneland. Her speed figures are competitive and she has a chance.

The next female we have is Spring in the Air. She also ran in the Ashland but finished a dismal 9th. However she is sporting some good works and I expect a very good effort from her.

Men of the Court in Queen’s Plate

Up With The BirdsNow for the boys in the race. Dynamic Sky won the Plate Trial by a nose in come from behind style. Dynamic Sky will again have the services of Joel Rosario.

The probable betting favorite is Up With the Birds. Expect him to run from behind like he did in the Transylvania Stakes at Keeneland.

The pacesetter will be the #1 horse, Midnight Aria. If he can steal away with a really easy lead he will be hard to deal with.

So I am going to go out on a limb and pick Midnight Aria to go wire to wire with Up With the Birds second and Spring in the Air third.

Good luck guys and gals!
